A layman’s thoughts on how to crush terrorism in India
In the wake of the inhuman devilish terrorist attacks on Mumbai, here is a layman’s common sense thoughts on how to tackle this monster that has been bleeding us for long, once and for all.
1. Discontinue all train, bus, air and sea transport and trade with Pakistan and Bangladesh, till such a time that cross-border terrorism stops completely.
2. Put a 20 feet tall steel fence all along our borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, wherever it does not exist yet, with high voltage electric current running through it. Put up watch towers with heavily armed soldiers all along the Indian side of this fence at every 1 kilometre and illuminate the entire border with flood lights at night. Put up warning boards on the outer side of this fence that anybody who attempts to cross this fence will be shot without warning. A strip of land of about 200 metres on either side of this fence should be cleared of all habitation, vegetation and other obstructions. If such a fence is not possible in the high mountain border in Kashmir, at least the watchtowers can be put up.
3. The Nepal border should be properly regulated with routine patrolling and checking of people crossing over.
4. On the sea coast of India, the state police, the coast guard and the navy should patrol every one hour in that order from the actual shoreline (as envisaged by experts after the 1993 Mumbai bombings). Watch towers with heavily armed guards should be put up at every 1 kilometre on the coast with periodic illuminated patches.
5. All the Pakistani visitors who have illegally overstayed in India, should be found and deported immediately.
6. All the Bangladeshi infiltrators who have entered India (over 3 crore) should be found and immediately deported.
7. Those people from India who wish to visit these neighbouring countries and those people from these countries who wish to visit India as tourists, should be made to come through the proper Visa channel only.
8. The intelligence agencies should be strengthened to pre-empt any further terrorist strikes.
9. The armed forces should be equipped with the state-of-art weapons wherever they are lacking. Their remuneration should also be substantially increased.
10. Those people within the country who support the terrorists and/or separatists should be ruthlessly destroyed.
11. Strong anti-terrorism law like Pota should be brought back and fast track courts should be put in place for terrorist trials.
12. Convicted terrorists should be hanged in public to instill fear among the would-be terrorists.
13. Those institutions / groups in the country that breed anti-India terror should be immediately shut down without succumbing to any pressures. It makes sense to crack down on a few ruthlessly for the larger well-being of crores of innocent Indians.
14. All foreign money that comes in, in the name of charity, social service, religious institutions or social groups, but ends up creating anti-India terror mechanism, should be immediately stopped.
15. Corruption in the Indian system should be dealt with a strong hand.
16. India should aggressively and professionally expose and isolate Pakistan and Bangladesh as breeders of terror, with strong evidences and convincingly bring out the truth before the world community.
17. Strong cooperation should be established with countries like Israel, UK, USA, France, Thailand, Indonesia, Philipines, Egypt, Libya, Syria, etc who share similar problems.
18. If the government claims that there is not enough money for all this, then let them cut down on the excess money spent on the politicians, the money lost in the corrupt sections of the bureaucracy, the money wasted in playing day-and-night cricket matches, money wasted in concretising existing good tar roads and money wasted in a thousand such activities.
19. And last, but not the least, those politicians who are unable to implement such drastic steps should be voted out in the coming elections and a seemingly better group of politicians should be given a decent chance.
