Rain Tree
--- Atul Sathe
The ubiquitous Rain Tree,
with tremendous canopy.
A
plant native of Brazil,
has
acquired Indian profile.
Nature’s umbrella for shade,
soothing avenue to tread.
Against
the sky azure blue,
the
chequered emerald hue.
Massive trunk and scaly bark,
foundation of the huge arc.
Squirrels and Orioles make their
home,
in the dense foliage they roam.
Pink and delicate blossom,
spring season has come.
Fallen
pods create a drawing,
on
the road by tyres rolling.
Majestic branches sway in the shower,
brittle they are, however.
Samanea
saman, the name botanical,
Indian
cousin Shirish, very identical.
Years ago, planted a sapling,
now taller than four-storey building.
Looks
like a wise old sage,
perfect for a city’s green image.
